Being drafted in the 19th round of the Major League Baseball Amateur draft is hardly a promising start to a professional career.

However, Burke Badenhop, a Perrysburg, Ohio, native and 2005 graduate of BGSU, is proving the majors are where he belongs.

"Being able to play in the majors is a pretty surreal feeling," Burke said.

Last Sunday was the 2008 Weekend Shootout at Wayne State. It featured area high school basketball teams scrimmaging head-to-head against each other over the course of two hot summer days.

The ironic part of the event was that there was no prize. There was no goal.

ASHLAND, Ohio (AP) - Monica Abbott pitched a no-hitter with 15 strikeouts, Crystl Bustos and Stacey Nuveman hit three-run homers, and the U.S. Olympic team tuned up for Beijing with a 20-0 win over a Mid-American Conference All-Star team on Monday night.

The Americans, who will be seeking a fourth straight gold medal in China, improved to 49-1 on their "Bound 4 Beijing" tour and delighted a standing-room-only crowd of 4,126 fans.

During the preliminary races at the U.S. Olympic swimming trials, the world's fastest swimmer had been beat in the 400-meter individual medley, an event in which he holds the world record.
